Services: Delivery service Getir takes over competitor Gorillas

The Turkish food delivery service Getir takes over the competitor Gorillas from Berlin. Getir announced this on Friday on the LinkedIn job platform.

The Financial Times and other media had previously reported. Initially, Getir did not provide any information about the purchase price. According to the reports, the takeover will cost around 1.2 billion dollars (around 1.14 billion euros). "This acquisition validates our long-term commitment and dedication to the sector and underscores how Getir is leading the industry consolidation," Getir said.

The takeover had been speculated for a long time. Gorillas had grown strongly during the Corona crisis, but then got into financial difficulties. In May, the company laid off hundreds of workers and announced that it would focus more on profitability than growth. How things will continue for the Gorillas employees after the takeover initially remained open on Friday. There were repeated disputes at the company about working conditions and the establishment of works councils by the drivers.
