The Mixed Parliamentary Group -Citizens, United We Can and For Ávila-, has registered a letter in the Cortes of Castilla y León with the aim of requesting the Bureau of the regional parliament to open the procedure planned for the award of the Gold Medal of the Cortes, posthumously, to Jesús Angel Orellana Amigo.

This request, as explained in a statement, is made under the provisions of the regulations on honors and distinctions of the Cortes de Castilla y León in four of its articles, specifically 7, 10, 19 and 21.

Orellana Amigo, originally from the Zamora town of Moreruela de los Infanzones, was buried last week, after being murdered when interposing himself in defense of a minor victim

of gender violence. “Her courageous and determined attitude probably saved the minor from being attacked at the hands of her ex-partner, who, armed with a knife, was heading towards her after a violent discussion in the middle of the street in the town of Andujar in Jaén,” argues the letter.

"Castilian and Leonese society must not remain indifferent to the pain of the family and fail to recognize the sacrifice of one of their children, in defense of the life and integrity of those who are victims of unjustifiable sexist violence," he concludes.
