The NATO Summit in Madrid takes place from June 28 to 30. Three days in which mobility will be strongly disrupted. For a long time, numerous authorities warned of the complicated week that the Spanish capital would go through. Telecommuting, public transport or avoiding unnecessary travel have been some of the most repeated words these days.

However, there are those who are forced to take the car yes or yes or to move through the streets of Madrid or to access the city from the outskirts. If mobility in the capital is already complicated due to the huge volume of cars, the traffic cuts derived from the Alliance conclave will make it even more difficult.

The A-2, one of the entrance roads to Madrid, will be one of the most affected, as it connects the Madrid-Barajas airport and the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base with the Ifema fairgrounds, in charge of hosting the conferences of the NATO during these days. This road will be restricted to traffic in the early hours of the morning and afternoon, since these are the times when the meetings will begin. The M-11 and M-40 will also remain closed in the section between the A-2 and the M-11.

These will not be the only sticking points. Already inside the city, several streets will be closed to vehicles in order to guarantee the safety of the heads of state and their movements. The most relevant and significant case is the Paseo de la Castellana. It is the main artery of Madrid. It could be said that through it you can reach almost any area of ​​the city.

His court is due to the fact that the hotels where the 40 heads of state and other diplomatic personnel will stay are located there. Therefore, from Plaza de Castilla to Atocha station, this road will remain closed.

In addition, Avenida de América, Gran Vía, Paseo de Recoletos, the roundabout of Ruiz Jiménez and Bilbao, the Plaza de Colón and Goya will be the other streets closed on Tuesday, June 28.

These restrictions on mobility will remain in place until Thursday, June 30, the day on which the summit is scheduled to conclude. From that moment, Madrid will recover the usual mobility.

To mitigate the effects of these measures, the regional government and the City Council have reinforced public transport services. On the part of the Consistory, the EMT buses will be free until the 30th, while the Community of Madrid has reinforced lines 1, 5, 6 and 10.
