DFS: Night survey flights announced at the airport

The German Air Traffic Control (DFS) has announced nocturnal survey flights at Frankfurt Airport. The instrument landing system of the north-west runway will be measured from September 15th to probably September 18th, DFS announced on Monday. A specially equipped measuring aircraft checks the precision of the signals that are required for safe landings.

The surveys begin at 11:00 p.m. and end at around 3:00 a.m. the following day. During the flight measurements, attempts are made to avoid flying over towns, DFS reported. Normally, there is a night flight ban at Frankfurt Airport between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

If there are problems with the technology or the weather, the flight measurements will be continued from September 29th to October 2nd according to DFS information.
