Air traffic: Lufthansa and pilots: Agreement brings ten months of peace

The agreement between Lufthansa and its pilots last week only brings about a collective bargaining agreement of almost ten months. The agreement includes significant salary increases, while open issues are to be negotiated until June 30, 2023, the company and the Vereinigung Cockpit union reported on Monday.

Until then, there is a peace obligation, so that passengers do not have to fear any further pilot strikes for the time being. The pilots' strike day of September 2 remains in the current pay round.

Lump sum increase in base salary in two steps

The approximately 5,000 pilots of the Lufthansa core company and the freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo will receive a flat-rate increase in their monthly basic remuneration in two steps. Retrospectively from August 1, 2022 and again on April 1, 2023, the table goes up by 490 euros gross. Especially for young professionals in the lower tariff groups, this means clear double-digit percentage increases. Lufthansa reported around 20 percent more for young co-pilots, while captains in the final stage would get 5.5 percent more money. The increases are above the company's last public offering.

The VC tariff expert Marcel Gröls described the increases as "encouraging". A further step towards a sustainable partnership has also been achieved. Gröls said: "We are currently on the right track with Lufthansa." Lufthansa Chief Human Resources Officer Michael Niggemann announced a trusting dialogue with the Cockpit Association in order to find sustainable solutions.
