The Real Club Náutico de Vigo hosted this morning the presentation of the 2022 edition of the Discoveries Race Regatta that will depart from the city of A Coruña on July 19, as announced by the Grand Master of the European Sailing Brotherhood, Francisco Quiroga, in an act that was also attended by the president of the RCN of Vigo, José Antonio Portela, and the president of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde, as well as other members of the organizing committee.

In this way, the Spanish-Portuguese Atlantic regatta Discoveries Race 2022 will take place between July 19 and August 7, starting from the Herculean city to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

On the other hand, and coinciding with the 500th anniversary of the first voyage around the world led by Ferdinand Magellan and completed by Juan Sebastián de Elcano, this year's edition is a tribute to the Spanish and Portuguese navies, which since the first edition have committed to the Discoveries Race by giving up its infrastructure and boats.

Created by the European Sailing Brotherhood and organized by the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, Real Club Náutico de Portosín, Clube de Vela Atlántico, Clube Nautico de Sines, Associaçao Regional de Vela da Madeira and the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, The event will have the following cities as its route and stops: A Coruña, Portosín, Porto, Sines, Funchal and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Boats from 30 feet in length can participate in it, distributed in two categories, ORC and Open. The registration period will end on July 3, 2022 at midnight.

The Discoveries Race is undoubtedly one of the most attractive stage races in the Atlantic, where the sporting and social aspects come together in a commemorative event in which the participants are the main protagonists.

Rallye Discoveries Race 2022

Parallel to this regatta, and coinciding with the development of the stage between Portosín and Porto, a nautical-tourist rally is held for all types of cruise ships, without competitive effects, which will start in Vigo and finish in Leixoes (Port).

The boats will sail in preserved condition, being able to receive help if necessary from each other. The arrival in Porto will coincide with the arrival of the boats participating in the Discoveries Race regatta. Precisely, in the Portuguese city a series of recreational acts are planned for all members of the boats participating in the Rally and those participating in the Discoveries Race regatta.

The boats that take part in the Rally will receive a commemorative diploma of this event. The route will have an approximate distance of 70 nautical miles with a duration of about 14 hours
