For 18 years he fearfully hid in the closet. He is referring to the English idiom for coming out ("to come out of the closet"; in German: to come out of the closet).

Schnapp told Variety in July that his Stranger Things character Will was gay. "I guess I'm more like Will than I thought I was," he wrote next to his Tiktok video. In the comments, many expressed their support for the actor.
