"Second Move Kills": Documentary about ex-minister of health Jens Spahn

The career of CDU politician Jens Spahn (42) has experienced numerous ups and downs in recent years. As one of the most popular politicians in his party, he suddenly found himself confronted with the corona pandemic from 2020 - and sometimes received harsh criticism for his decisions as Minister of Health. A new documentary series called "Second Move Kills", which will be available on demand from November 2nd on the streaming service RTL, wants to give exclusive insights into the work and life of Spahn.

The upcoming documentary by Grimme award winner Aljoscha Pause (50) will consist of nine episodes and show "5 years with Jens Spahn". According to the broadcaster, the production wants to draw a "multi-layered portrait of a politician", which also illuminates his time before taking office as Minister of Health - he had taken over the office in 2018 from his CDU colleague Hermann Gröhe - and his private life.

Questions that Pause wants to answer with his documentary, among other things: "But who is the man who wanted to become Chancellor as a student? What made him the politician he is today?" The filmmaker also took part in crisis meetings and trips abroad by the politician. Spahn's views of the church and its attitude towards homosexuality are also explored. Spahn has been married to journalist Daniel Funke since 2017.

In addition to Spahn, many other politicians will have their say in "Second Move Kills - 5 years with Jens Spahn". According to the press release, these included Annalena Baerbock, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Kevin Kühnert, Armin Laschet, Wolfgang Schäuble and Spahn's successor as Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach. Other names included are science journalist and TV presenter Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim, "Hart aber fair" presenter Frank Plasberg and comedians Oliver Welke and Max Giermann.
