New James Bond: Idris Elba is not interested

After Daniel Craig's (54) farewell performance as 007, a new actor is currently being sought for the iconic role. Hollywood star Idris Elba (50) has long been a spy on Her Majesty's Secret Service and was considered by many to be the favorite to succeed Craig. The 50-year-old has now put a stop to that himself in the podcast "The Shop". "It's not a career goal of mine," Elba explained, adding, "I don't think playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals."

In the same breath, Elba mentions the obvious desire of James Bond fans around the world to see him in the role. In "every corner of the world" he visits and in "different cultures," scores of people would point fingers and yell "Bond," according to the star. But even that doesn't change Elba's own statement. "I'm not that type," he says, even though so many fans would like it to be.

Fans all over the world will probably have to wait a while before they find out which actor will actually become the new Bond. Producer Barbara Broccoli (62) is currently working on a realignment of the long-lived agent franchise. A new bond must then naturally also fit into the new concept of the series. For bookmakers on the island, "The Witcher" star Henry Cavill (39) and ex-"Bridgerton" star Regé-Jean Page (34) are currently the favorites to succeed Daniel Craig.
