The public was not informed until 6.30pm UK time (7.30pm CEST). Five minutes earlier, Prince Harry, who was very close to his grandmother during her lifetime, had learned of the Queen's death. At the time he was on his way to Scotland.
Why he only went into action so late in the day is still a mystery to this day. Because while Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, as well as Prince Andrew and Prince William, flew to Scotland at 2:39 p.m. to make it to the Queen in time, Harry only boarded a private jet in London Luton at 5:35 p.m. and landed in Aberdeen at 6:47 p.m. Like Edward, Sophie, Andrew and William, Prince Harry is said to be on the air of King Charles III. found out the Queen had died.
But why did it take so long to let your own son know the news and why had there been no communication for almost three hours? But there would also be another version of the story: Because shortly before 2 p.m. on the day of death, spokesmen for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan said that the two would travel to Scotland together. Only half an hour later the message was called an "error" and corrected that Harry was coming to Scotland alone. Only those involved know what happened in the meantime.
Nobody will ever know exactly what the communication looked like on the day the Queen died and what announcements were made. But the temporal inconsistencies show that the way the process after the death of a royal is planned, it is probably impossible to consider every detail.
