After five and a half years of construction, the expansion of the A6 to six lanes between the Wiesloch/Rauenberg junction and the Weinsberg motorway junction has been completed. According to the Autobahn GmbH Südwest, it is the largest road construction project in the southwest - and that with ongoing traffic. The cars and trucks are now six lanes on a total length of 25.5 kilometers. In addition, the public and private partnership project envisages the operation and maintenance of the entire 47.2-kilometer stretch of motorway for a period of 30 years.

The expansion of the A6 between Wiesloch and Weinsberg cost around 1.3 billion euros. Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann (Greens) and Secretary of State for Transport Michael Theurer (FDP) wanted to release the section today.

With more than 100,000 vehicles expected per day in 2025, the section between the Wiesloch/Rauenberg junction and the Weinsberg motorway junction is considered to be extremely busy. In the east, the section borders on the section between the Weinsberg motorway junction and the state border with Bavaria, which is still to be expanded. To the west of the section, the A 6 has already been widened to six lanes.

A highlight of the recently completed construction work: at the beginning of the year, a new bridge across the Neckar valley near Heilbronn was moved by more than 20 meters in two steps. It was the largest part of the A 6 expansion project.
