The Eco-schools program developed by the Toledo Provincial Council has been recognized by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha with the 2022 Regional Environment Award in the Promotion of Environmental Education modality, which was collected this Wednesday in Guadalajara by the president of the institution Álvaro Gutiérrez , in the institutional act of World Environment Day.

An award that recognizes the work that the Diputación is developing to involve the schools of the province in the defense of the environment through this program to which it has managed to incorporate 61 educational centers in Toledo, forming the largest Provincial Network of Eco-schools in Spain. .

Specifically, the network is made up of three special education centers in Toledo

, Esquivias and Madridejos, as well as two grouped rural centres, 15 institutes and 41 infant and primary education centres.

Álvaro Gutiérrez thanked this Regional Award for the Environment, highlighting the work of the Environmental Service team of the Toledo Provincial Council and the collaboration of the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac) with whom he started this program in 2008 in the province .

But especially, the provincial president has alluded to the students and teachers of these 61 centers that make up the Provincial Network of Eco-schools that have taken on this environmental education program among their tasks with interest and continuity in order to actively contribute to improving their environment. nature and the local community.

Every year, since 2008, new schools have been incorporated into this program, Gutiérrez highlighted, such as the five schools that have joined this year 2022.

The green flag that distinguishes the Eco-schools of the province increasingly full of sustainability and commitment to the care of our environment and of young people who also dedicate their time and effort to working on the care and improvement of school sustainability, leading to carry out actions aimed at saving water and energy, or separation of waste and recycling.

Gutiérrez thanked the Minister for Sustainable Development for the 2022 regional award for the Promotion of Environmental Education and congratulated his department and the Government of Castilla-La Mancha for their commitment to policies for the conservation and care of the environment and sustainability and highlighted the celebration in our land this World Environment Day with this act that this year has as its motto 'One Earth' that makes a direct call to live sustainably and in harmony with nature.

This environmental gala awards have been given to 23 entities, companies and individuals outstanding for their work in sustainable development in the region.

Álvaro Gutiérrez shared the event with the Minister for Sustainable Development, José Luis Escudero; the President of the Cortes of Castilla-La Mancha, Pablo Bellido; the president of the Guadalajara Provincial Council, José Luis Vega; the mayor of Guadalajara, Alberto Rojo; the Minister of Social Welfare, Bárbara García, and the Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Martínez Arroyo.
