After days of sometimes violent activity, the Italian volcano Stromboli has calmed down again. The National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) announced on Friday evening that the lava flow on the north side of the Inselberg is hardly fed with new magma.

Hot material will continue to be thrown out of the crater, but significantly less than last time. Seismic measurements also showed no abnormalities. The ascent routes to the volcano remain closed to tourists without a guide, according to the Ansa news agency.

From last weekend there had been stronger eruptions on Stromboli, which had caused a natural spectacle. Lava gushed out of the crater, dense smoke rose.
