Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, assault and assault.

Prosecutors had previously confirmed that they had recommended charges be brought against the Manchester United striker.

Greenwood was arrested in January and released on bail in June, but was arrested again Saturday morning after violating conditions.

GMP confirmed Saturday afternoon that Greenwood has now been charged and will appear in magistrates' court on Monday.

"Greater Manchester Police have remanded a 21-year-old man under Section 47 on charges of assault, attempted rape and assault on a woman," it said in a statement. "Mason Greenwood from Bowdon will be on Monday 17th October 2022 outside the Manchester

Janet Potter, Assistant Attorney General for the CPS North West, said in a previous statement: "Specialist rape prosecutors from the Complex Cases Unit of the CPS North West have approved the charges following a review of evidence obtained by Greater Manchester Police."
