Climate protection: Climate demonstrators want to block highways again

The climate protection demonstrators from the last generation group have announced renewed blockades of motorway exits for the next week. From Monday (October 10th) there will be "mass freeway blockades in Berlin again," the group announced on Tuesday. They want to "flow onto the streets of Berlin and interrupt everyday life" until the government changes its climate policy. "We would all like to spare ourselves this disruption," because it is not aimed at the people in the cars, but at the government, it said.

The Last Generation group was formed after a climate hunger strike in Berlin a year ago. Since the beginning of 2022, she has repeatedly blocked motorway exits and other traffic routes in many cities and called for more measures to combat climate change. Most recently, demonstrators stuck to works of art in museums and disrupted Bundesliga soccer games. At the beginning of September, more than 460 investigations into the actions were registered with the Berlin public prosecutor's office, mainly due to coercion and resistance to the police.

At the same time, a second group, Extinction Rebellion, is active with similar protests. In September, they blocked streets near Berlin's government district and in front of party headquarters.
