Coronavirus in Valencia: when will those over eighty years of age receive the fourth dose of the vaccine

The Public Health Commission has approved the administration of the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to people over eighty years of age and to those who live in residences, although it has not specified when the campaign to inoculate the vials will begin.

In the case of the Valencian Community, more than 295,000 people will be summoned to receive a new reinforcement puncture, after nine months have elapsed since Health began to put the third dose against Covid-19.

As explained by the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, the new vaccine administration will arrive at "the most appropriate time according to the epidemiological situation" of the patients, although "probably" it will be when new versions adapted to dominant variants such as Omicron are available.

A decision that, for the moment, is not endorsed by the European Medicines Agency and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) for the entire population, limited only to adults over eighty years of age.

The health authorities argue that at the moment there is "no clear evidence that vaccine protection is decreasing in adults with normal immune systems between the ages of sixty and 79", so they advise against the fourth dose for that age group.

According to the data offered by the Ministry of Health in its latest report, in the Valencian Community about 4.4 million people have the complete guideline while 2.9 million have the booster dose against the coronavirus. In those over seventy years of age, the percentage rises to 93.45% of the susceptible population, while in the 20 to 29 age group it is limited to 48.38%.
