The SPD in Bremen has chosen Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte as the top candidate for the state elections in May 2023 with an overwhelming majority. At a party convention, 99.2 percent of delegates voted for his nomination. According to the party, there were 123 yes votes and one no vote.
Bovenschulte (57) has led a coalition of SPD, Greens and Left Party in the smallest federal state since 2019. The next election to the Bremen Parliament is scheduled for May 14 next year. Bovenschulte thanked for the vote of confidence. "Together we will rock this," he said. At the same time, the Greens met in Bremen, who want to nominate the environment senator Maike Schaefer as the top candidate.
