After decades, some finally want to delight their fans with new songs, others decorate their farewell with a musical retrospective. The music year 2023 promises to be an extraordinary one. What's in the starting blocks:
Metallica
The new album by the American metal band will be released on April 14: "72 Seasons" is 77 minutes long and will contain 12 songs. It is the first new studio album since 2016's "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct". For the US icons, it is the twelfth album in the band's 40-year history. There is also a world tour planned - Metallica will also play four shows in Germany!
King's wool
With the song "Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd", Lana Del Rey not only released a new song, but also announced the title of her album of the same name, which will be released on March 10th. A few guests will also be heard on the album - including the band Bleachers and musician Jon Batiste.
Jennifer Lopez
Over twenty years after the release of her album This Is Me...Then, Jennifer Lopez has announced a follow-up album. "This Is Me...Now" features 13 new songs and is scheduled for release later this year. It is the musician's first album since 2014's "A.K.A.".
Deichkind
"News from the permanent state" (February 17) is the name of the eighth record by the Hamburg MCs. "The Deichkinder wring out their souls to offer you only the hottest shit," announces the band. The preliminary electro track "In der Natur" paints a gloomy picture between big city life and climate catastrophe.
Depeche Mode
After the unexpected death of founding member and keyboardist Andrew Flechter in May, the now British synth-pop duo released their first album, "Memento Mori". Six years after their number one album "Spirit", the 15th record will be released in spring. A world tour is also planned for Dave Gahan and Martin Gore.
Everything But The Girl
Almost 30 years after number one hit "Missing" and more than two decades after their last record, the British duo have announced a new album for spring. Since the turn of the millennium, Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, who are now married, have disappeared from the scene.
Ed Sheeran
His albums have a number one subscription. In his home country, the 31-year-old Brit has brought all five to the top of the charts, and he's also at the top in Germany - most recently with "=" ("Equals") and the mega hits "Shivers" and "Bad Habits" . After a break he wants to start with a new album in 2023.
Fat bread
After almost 30 years in the business, the Hamburg hip-hop trio will celebrate their farewell in 2023 with a huge tour. Before the final curtain falls in their home town on the Elbe in early September, König Boris, Doc Renz and Björn Beton relive their greatest successes with "Hitstory" (February 10).
Herbert Gronemeyer
Most recently, the 66-year-old had the single "Your Hand" on the ZDF show "Wetten, dass ..?" presented live - and the new album "Das ist los" (March 24th) announced. 20 years after the mega-seller "Mensch", this record is almost certainly making an attempt to climb the charts throne as the 14th of his longplayers.
Iggy Pop
Right at the beginning of the year, the shirtless godfather of punk pulls the ends of his socks with his loud and rough sound. If you believe the pre-single "Frenzy", then the 75-year-old, after the jazz record "Free", is back to hard rock at its best with his 19th solo album "Every Loser" (January 6).
Kylie Minogue

Peter Gabriel
This is a real sensation! In 2023 the Genesis founding member will be on a big European tour and will have a new album with them. There is no more precise information about "i/o" yet, but fans of the 72-year-old should be rubbing their hands about the first record with new material in more than 20 years.
The Rolling Stones
That would be no less spectacular. "New sounds on the horizon," guitarist Keith Richards posted from a recording studio at the end of October. This fuels rumors that the British rock legends around singer Mick Jagger could soon release their first album with fresh songs since "A Bigger Bang" (2005). The drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021, should also be heard on some tracks, according to the British "The Sun" from guitarist Ron Wood.
