NamX HUV: Hydrogen SUV wants to make range boost possible - with interchangeable capsules in the rear

At the Paris Motor Show last week, well-known car manufacturers as well as previously largely unknown companies presented their innovations. The Moroccan-French start-up NamX presented the Namx HUV, a hydrogen car with a new system: interchangeable capsules in the rear of the vehicle, which are intended to provide a real range boost.

In addition to its permanently installed hydrogen tank, the fuel cell prototype has six capsules, which are stowed in the rear above the bumper. They can be removed by hand and should be replaced within 30 seconds. The capsules each hold eight kilograms of hydrogen, so that an additional range of 50 kilometers should be possible. This should allow the "next generation" SUV to travel a total of 800 kilometers. According to the manufacturer, it is the first car in the world that is partially powered by the removable tank system. The start-up has already patented the system. NamX wants to set up a distribution network so that drivers can exchange empty capsules for full ones.

Although the specified market launch is still some way off, it is already known that the NamX HUV will appear in two variants - "without compromising on performance". There will be an entry-level version with 300 hp and rear-wheel drive and a second version with all-wheel drive and an engine power of 550 hp. The latter should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

The powerful design of the SUV was created in cooperation with the Italian design studio Pininfarina and apparently underlines the sporty characteristics. The depiction of an "X" in several places on the vehicle, which is a good five meters long, is striking. For example, an "X" is engraved in the body of the doors to clarify the model name. The "X" can also be found on the radiator grille and the design running down from the headlights, as well as in the light signatures at the rear.

The purchase price of the NamX HUV is between 65,000 and 90,000 euros depending on the equipment. The SUV can already be reserved for 1000 euros. However, the expected delivery is only given for December 2025 to January 2026. It is not yet clear in which look and with which properties the prototype will finally come onto the market in a good three years.
