In 2011, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, a 46-year-old lawyer and music teacher, left his professional life and entered politics. He was first a government councilor of the Leganés City Council and later spokesman for the opposition and regional deputy, positions that he continues to hold today. This son of a "humble churrero" from this Madrid municipality has been chosen by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to preside over the congress that will elect her as regional president of the PP. He interprets it as a recognition of the effort and sacrifice "of those of us who have carved out our future sweating, and a lot."

How do you interpret your appointment to preside over the PP Congress in Madrid?

On the one hand, as a recognition of the southern area of ​​Madrid, for Ayuso's commitment to this part of the community.

Do you expect this congress to definitively close the wounds within the PP in Madrid?

For days now, the PP's wounds have been healed and teamwork is being carried out – I see it in the Madrid Assembly as a deputy – with good humor, with good vibes.

What do you think needs to be changed in the Popular Party of Madrid?

Something that has motivated me a lot has been that look towards the south, it has pleasantly surprised me, and breaking with the established message that the red belt seems to be from the left and no, we have the obligation to be there and to support the people . Ayuso has been very groundbreaking by turning to the south of Madrid.

Do you hope to be part of Ayuso's team?

For now, let me enjoy what I've got, if I'm not on that team there will be other people who are just as or more competent than me. I believe that any member of the Popular Party can be part of the directive organization.

Do you share Ayuso's idea that the PP does not have to be ballast or be a club of friends? What PP should come out of Congress?

I come from the private sector and I have always believed a lot in professionalization and having the best, if it also turns out that you generate a friendship, all the better.

Does the PP have to be more professional then?

You don't have to be in places for friendship, but for your worth or professionalism. We are talking about organizations in which the future is very much at stake, in this case Madrid.

The president does not like very much the people who call her the most on her mobile, she commented in an interview with ABC. What relationship do you have with her, must it be close to designate you president of the congress?

The truth is that it is a very direct and very professional relationship, when she was not president of the Community, when she is and when she is a candidate. Both she and I, when we have had to call each other, have been very practical, because she has no time to waste and neither do I. We both have many obligations and we have to get to the point. I am loyal and it was very clear to me from minute one who the Community was betting on.

Will the congress be a military walk for Ayuso?

It has to happen very badly, I hope it goes smoothly, that there are no problems and if there is any issue that generates any difficulty that we solve it calmly and come out strengthened and with the desire to win.
