Caroline St-Hilaire will be a candidate for the CAQ in Sherbrooke

The Coalition avenir Québec will rely on the former mayor of Longueuil Caroline St-Hilaire to try to win the riding of Sherbrooke in the next general election, learned TVA Nouvelles.

The candidacy of the 52-year-old politician should officially announce her candidacy on June 5 in the company of François Legault.

During the last elections, Christine Labrie, from Québec solidaire, was elected with 34.27% of the vote. She was thus ahead of outgoing MP Luc Fortin, of the Liberal Party of Quebec, by 3,450 votes. The CAQ candidate at the time, Bruno Vachon, finished third with 23.39% of the vote.

The riding of Sherbrooke has changed color in each of the three most recent elections. Before Christine Labrie and Luc Fortin, PQ member Serge Cardin was elected in 2012, beating Jean Charest who had represented Sherbrooke since 2012.
