Mickelson gives up on the PGA Championship

Phil Mickelson has withdrawn for the PGA Championship, which will take place from May 19 to 22 on the fairways of the Southern Hills Country Club, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 51-year-old was set to defend his title, winning the event in 2021, becoming the oldest golfer to win a grand slam tournament, his sixth in his career.

“Phil is eligible to become a member of the PGA for the rest of his life and we would have welcomed him with open arms if he had wanted to participate, write PGA of America, on his Twitter account. We wish Phil and [his wife] Amy the best and look forward to seeing him return to the game.”

Mickelson walked away from the world of golf in February after inappropriate comments from him against the PGA surfaced. He then apologized and said he was taking a break to work on himself and spend time with his loved ones.
