Karlsruhe: Teacher forgets students at the train station – and goes to France without them

It's every teacher's nightmare: Losing a student on a school field trip. It is easy to lose track of the many children, miscount, or not immediately notice that some children are deliberately moving away from the rest of the group. This can happen quickly, especially in turbulent situations, such as at a train station. For a French teacher, this has now become a bitter reality – and in another country too.

Last week, the teacher took her class on a trip to Germany. When she returned to France with her students and boarded a train in Karlsruhe for Strasbourg, the class was not complete. Several children stayed behind at the Karlsruhe train station.

The Federal Police Inspectorate in Karlsruhe reported on Monday that after the train had departed, three 13-year-old students were still on the platform. Since their supervisor was on the train, the students contacted the Deutsche Bahn travel center. The employees then immediately alerted the federal police at the main station.

The police officers took the children into their care and took them to the police station. After the teacher had been contacted, she returned to Karlsruhe on the next train – and picked up the children again. What exactly caused the students not to be on the train with the rest of the class is not known.
