Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer therefore draws a mixed balance. "There is light and shadow," stated the SPD politician, according to the announcement. The country's economy is proving to be robust.

Despite the insolvency of the MV shipyards, industry is a stable anchor alongside crafts and the healthcare sector. Tourism, which is enormously important for the country, is also picking up again. Meyer expects economic output to grow by around 1.0 to 1.5 percent for the year that is coming to an end. In the first half of the year, the economy in the north-east had grown strongly. According to initial calculations, gross domestic product increased by 5.2 percent in real terms compared to the same period last year. Meyer held back with forecasts for the coming year.
