Compensation for insult: Luisa Neubauer has 10,000 euros seized by right-wing propaganda author Pirinçci

Luisa Neubauer has had 10,000 euros seized from the account of right-wing writer Akif Pirinçci. The district court in Frankfurt am Main had sentenced the author of the famous cat novels to pay compensation because he had insulted the climate activist with a sexist comment. The sum consists of the costs of the procedure and compensation of 6000 euros. The latter amount was transferred directly to the affected organization Hate Aid, as Neubauer's lawyer, Severin Riemenschneider, explained to "Spiegel".

Apparently Pirinçci refused to voluntarily pay the sum and did not take the court's decision seriously: "Mr. Pirinçci did not issue a cease-and-desist declaration, was unreasonable and also made fun of the procedure in the pleadings," said Riemenschneider to the "Spiegel" further.

"This case shows that it is quite possible to defend oneself against sexism, misogyny and other forms of hate speech online," Neubauer said in December immediately after the verdict. "Sometimes the hatred is so intense that it leaves you speechless. But I will definitely not be silent."

The seizure concerned the civil side of the case. The sexist insult in the form of a Facebook post also had criminal consequences for the 62-year-old. The Bonn Regional Court sentenced him to four months' imprisonment for posting. The author, on the other hand, has appealed and a final verdict is pending.

Pirinçci is one of the worst agitators in the right-wing populist and Islamophobic milieu. For years he has insulted and humiliated Muslims, leftists and women in particular. In 2017 he had already been sentenced to a fine of 5,100 euros in Bonn for incitement to hatred because he had published a right-wing extremist pamphlet. In Dresden, he had been sentenced for a hate speech at an event organized by the Pegida movement.
