Acciona Energía was the largest independent 100% renewable marketer in Spain in 2021, selling more than 6,345 gigawatt hours (GWh) of certified renewable electricity to its customers in the country, according to data made public by the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC).

Specifically, this figure represents more than 9% of the total certified renewable supply in the Spanish market, according to the annual report on Guarantees of Origin (GdO) published by the regulator.

The body chaired by Cani Fernández certified a total supply of 68,775 GWh of renewable electricity to end customers during the past year in the Spanish market.

Electricity labeling is based on the System of Guarantees of Origin, the only valid tool for marketers to inform their customers of the origin of the electricity they sell and its environmental impact. This mechanism prevents companies from developing misleading advertising strategies about the 'green' origin of their offers.

The management of the System of Guarantees of Origin is the responsibility of the CNMC. It is an accreditation, in electronic format, that ensures the volume of megawatts/hour (MWh) generated from renewable sources or high-efficiency cogeneration, in a given period of time.

Acciona Energía is the largest 100% renewable utility in Spain and markets certified electricity to companies and institutions. The company led by José Manuel Entrecanales expanded the sale of 100% 'green' energy to SMEs a year ago and already has a fully deployed commercial network with more than 6,200 supply points and 450 GWh of contracted energy.

The commercialization of 'green' energy of the group in Spain is backed by more than 5,700 megawatts (MW) of wind and hydraulic power installed, fundamentally.

Thanks to the emission-free electricity supply, the company's customers in Spain have avoided more than 760,000 tons of CO2, equivalent to taking a fleet of 300,000 cars off the road or planting 1.35 million trees.

Among the clients of the Acciona Energy marketer in Spain are Acuamed, Agrolimen, Asics, Apple, Bimbo, CAF, Coca Cola European Partners, Grupo DAMM, Makro, Maersk, Nestlé, Philip Morris, Roca, Telefónica, Tetrapak, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and Unilever, among others.
