Luke Shaw slams former United coaches: Achievements didn't matter!

Manchester United are getting a little better under Erik ten Hag. One reason the Red Devils are back in touch with the Champions League ranks is that underperforming players are no longer playing.

After struggling in the first two games of the season under Erik ten Hag, Shaw lost his place in the starting XI to new signing Tyrell Malacia. However, he has recently regained his place at left-back, starting the last two Premier League games against Everton and Newcastle.

Shaw didn't mind the intermittent absence as he felt his performances warranted a bench spot - in fact he was pleased that the new coach, unlike his predecessors, was more considerate of the players' form takes.

"The good thing about this coach is that if you don't play well, you don't play," said Shaw, adding meaningfully: "In the past that hasn't been the case. I think the good thing about this coach is that he keeps everyone on their toes. He makes sure everyone is giving 100% every day."

"If you're not in it, you don't play. That's a positive thing. We all know that. And I just have to work even harder."

Shaw added that ten Hag didn't give a reason when he dropped him for the first time this season - there was no need as the Englishman knew full well he wasn't good enough.

"I didn't really need him to tell me anything, I knew it," said the left-back. "I knew the first two games weren't nearly good enough. I knew it was time to say goodbye to the team. The results were bad, my performances weren't good enough."

"I just had to keep training hard every day so the coach could see that I was trying. I was just waiting for my chance and I had to wait because the team was good and we won."

"You can't complain. I just had to be with the team every day, get involved and help the team, whether I was in the starting XI or on the bench."
