My first words are of gratitude on behalf of all the doctors who dedicate ourselves to practicing our profession in the different infirmaries of the bullrings. That this prestigious jury wanted to pay tribute by synthesizing it in the names of Carlos Val-Carreres Guinda and Máximo García-Padrós.

We have been lucky enough to have teachers in this peculiar type of surgery such as doctors Jiménez Guinea, Val-Carreres, García de la Torre, Bourio, Olsina Felipe de Luis, José María Aragón and a long etcetera, who created a school how to treat this type of injury. With the creation of the Spanish Society of Bullfighting Surgery, the aim has always been to improve medical-surgical assistance in bullfighting festivities and always for the benefit of bullfighters.

Important at this stage has been to change the bullfighting regulations regarding the infirmaries and also to unify the management and treatment of this type of injury. Now there is another important challenge, which is the training of new doctors who dedicate themselves to this task, although there are already matadors who support surgical residents with scholarships and grants so that they can attend the different courses and congresses that this society celebrates.

I reiterate my thanks to ABC and the jury, which this time has awarded this twelfth prize to bullfighting doctors and which I extend to our families, to whom we have sacrificed so many days, many on holidays, and have experienced our efforts and concerns.
