Freddie Roman: The comedian and actor is dead

Freddie Roman is dead. The American comedian and actor died of a heart attack in Florida on Saturday November 26, 2022. This was confirmed by his daughter to US media.

Born Fred Kirschenbaum, the stand-up comedian grew up in Queens, New York. At the age of 15 he performed at his grandfather's hotel in the Catskill Mountains. He then haunted the hotels in the area, also known as the Borscht Belt because of its popularity with New York Jews of Russian descent, as a comedian. He later performed in the major hotels of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. As chairman of the New York Friars Club, he promoted comedy talent.

A specialty of Freddie Roman was the roast, the "grilling" of well-known comedians and celebrities by their peers. On Comedy Central he appeared in roasts for Chevy Chase (79), Jerry Stiller (1927-2020) and Hugh Hefner (1926-2017), among others.

Occasionally, Roman also appeared as an actor. In 2006 he starred in the comedy "The Last Laugh" with Chevy Chase and Richard Dreyfuss and was a guest in the crime series "Criminal Intent". He had a recurring role in the comedy series "Red Oaks", which was also shown in Germany via Amazon Prime Video.
