The Regensburger Domspatzen have begun to write a new chapter in their more than 1000-year history: the newly founded girls' choir performed for the first time in St. Peter's Cathedral. So far, only boys were allowed to attend the famous music school. "You did a great job," said cathedral provost Franz Frühmorgen, speaking of a "wonderful gift". Choir director Elena Szuczies was delighted with the performance of the girls and the warm welcome given to the choir.

At an icy 2.5 degrees in the thick cathedral walls, the high school students - and the visitors to the fair - bravely held out. The program included the piece "Veni Domine" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Everything worked out, although some of the young singers were a bit ailing due to a cold, said Szuczies.

The girls were also able to get a taste of some typical Domspatzen air with concert tours: the second performance was scheduled for the same evening in Nuremberg. "I'm already looking forward to the next time," said an eleven-year-old after the service. "I'll put on warmer clothes then." And a 15-year-old summed it up: "You could totally enjoy it despite the cold. That was a completely new experience for us."

34 girls from all over Germany started at the beginning of this school year with the Regensburger Domspatzen. About half of them live in the associated boarding school. They are in different grades but sing in the same choir.
