Electronics: Apple announces new iPad generation

Apple has completely renewed its range of tablet computers. "We're excited to introduce our most advanced line of iPads to date," Apple CEO Tim Cook said on Twitter.

The iPhone group announced a total of three new models in the tablet product line: two Pro models with the new M2 chip system and a completely redesigned entry-level iPad. It now also comes in the angular design of the previous Pro models and now has a USB-C connection.

In contrast to previous iPad presentations, Apple did not hold an event on Tuesday, but only updated the website. The online store had previously gone offline for a good two hours to add the new offers.

Cook wrote on Twitter that the tenth generation iPad now has an important update. And the M2 system boosts the performance of iPad Pro to unleash user creativity and boost productivity.

Not cheap

The two iPad Pro models hardly differ from the previous models, which were presented in April 2021. They are still available in variants with 11 and 12.9 inch screen diagonals. The entry-level iPad will be available in four colors: blue, pink, yellow and silver. Inside is the A14 Bionic Chip, which is also used in the fourth generation iPad Air and was previously used in the iPhone 12. This makes the iPad five times faster than comparable tablets with Google's Android operating system.

Similar to the iPhone, buyers of an iPad in the euro area have to dig deep into their pockets. The iPad with WLAN is available from 579 euros. Apple offers models that also master LTE mobile communications from 779 euros. For buyers on a smaller budget, Apple has continued to offer the previous model, the 9th generation iPad, which is available from 429 euros. With the iPad Pro, Apple crosses the 1000 euro mark with prices starting at 1049 euros. The larger 12.9-inch model is available from 1449 euros.
