Schwerin: CDU traffic expert: 49-euro ticket is a "farce"

The traffic policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Daniel Peters, has criticized the recent resolutions for a 49-euro monthly ticket as misleading and ignorant. In the cities with functioning local transport, the ticket brings a very manageable relief effect for users. "People in rural areas who do not find functioning public transport will not be able to use the ticket, but they have to help finance it through taxes," said Peters on Sunday. The policy of the traffic light coalition brings a "redistribution from country to city".

In addition, the decision for a Germany-wide local transport ticket misjudges the real needs and concerns of the population, Peters warned with a view to the weekly demonstrations. People fear for their livelihoods in the face of skyrocketing energy prices. The government must therefore make quick and unbureaucratic decisions in order to effectively relieve consumers, but also trade and small and medium-sized businesses. "In view of the current situation, the 49-euro ticket is a farce," said Peters.

On Thursday in Bremerhaven, the transport ministers of the federal and state governments had agreed in principle on a 49-euro monthly ticket as the successor to the 9-euro ticket from the summer. It could apply from early 2023. However, it is still subject to the condition that there is an agreement on the general financing of local public transport in times of rising energy costs.
