Portugal says Ukraine's EU accession should be welcomed 'with open arms'

The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, has asserted that Ukraine's accession to the European Union is a process that must be received "with open arms" and has assured that Lisbon will provide "technical" support to kyiv for this purpose.

These statements by the Portuguese head of government were given at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, within the framework of Costa's visit to the Ukrainian capital.

The prime minister has pointed out that, in order to develop this collaboration program, Ukrainian officials will travel to Lisbon in June, according to the Portuguese news agency LUSA.

"We look forward to the European Commission's report on Ukraine's application to become a member of the European Union. On Portugal's side, we will give all technical collaboration to support this accession process, as well as pass on our experience in the EU," has affected.

On the other hand, Costa has described President Zelenski as "a leader who inspires the world", and has assured that he represents "an example of courage and remarkable resistance" against the "brutal" military aggression initiated by Russia almost three months ago , at the end of February.
