Climate crisis: Councilwoman sticks to the lectern in Cologne

During the Cologne council meeting, a member of parliament glued himself to the lectern. Nicolin Gabrysch, councilwoman for the climate friends, spoke on Thursday evening about the heat action plan of the city of Cologne and stuck to the end of her speech. "It cannot and must not continue. That's why I'm making sure that things don't continue as usual, at least here and now, but at least go a little bit differently than usual," she said. As the climate list Germany announced, they acted “in solidarity with climate activists: especially those of the last generation”. Gabrysch leaves the Cologne city council voluntarily.

When Gabrysch got stuck, Mayor Henriette Reker (independent) pointed out that a second lectern was available. According to a city spokesman, the meeting was briefly adjourned. Gabrysch was given solvent. After a few minutes she was back in her regular seat and the session continued. The AfD faction heavily criticized Reker after the break. She accused Reker of having ignored the incident as the chair of the meeting and called for a fine or order to be imposed. Reker referred to the rules of procedure and continued the meeting.
