Champions League: Kiel's handball players start with a win in the group phase

The German handball record champion THW Kiel has successfully started the new Champions League season. On Wednesday evening in Group B, the North Germans confidently won 36:26 (17:13) against the Norwegian title holder Elverum Handball. The most successful THW shooters in the Kiel Arena were Harald Reinkind (6 goals) as well as Patrick Wiencek and Niclas Ekberg (both 5), while Uros Borzas (6) and Christopher Hedberg (4) were the most accurate at Elverum.

The favored Schleswig-Holsteiners got into the encounter with difficulty at first and after 15 minutes were 7:9 behind against the initially very consistent guests. As a result, however, the home side improved significantly and quickly ensured the not undeserved four-goal advantage at half-time.

After the change, the Kielers, where goalkeeper Niklas Landin proved more and more than the usual support and had saved eleven throws in the end, consistently extended their lead. The Norwegians defended themselves as best they could, but in the end the THW was too strong.
