BARQ, the Barcelona International Architecture Film Festival, opens its doors tomorrow, Tuesday, with the screening of Building Bastille and will carry out its program of architecture films with a social perspective until May 15, in a second edition that will close for the first time in Madrid.

With architecture as a transversal axis, BARQ is committed to cinema with a social outlook and the selected documentaries deal in an innovative way with current issues such as the inequalities that The Bubble portrays, the contradictions of design that Monobloc shows or the effects of urban overexploitation that narrates The Quiet Side.

This year's program brings together documentaries from all over the world, unpublished in Spain, and the screenings can be seen in the Girona cinemas and in the Disseny Hub Barcelona, ​​and after each session talks are planned with some of the directors and protagonists of the documentaries.

Caterina Miralles Tagliabue, Morrosko Vila-San-Juan, Ila Bêka and Leif Kaldor are some of the participating guests.

The films will also be available on the Filmin platform during the days of the festival and, for the first time, BARQ will also be in Madrid with the screening of the winning piece on May 19 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

The winning projects of this second edition will be announced on Sunday May 15 at a closing ceremony and awards ceremony at the Design Museum, which will coincide with the exhibition of The healing.

The BARQ jury is made up of Marc Serena, Javier Peña and Ruth Somalo (feature films) and Fredy Massad, Carolini Ciuti and Júlia Solans (short films).

The College of Architects of Catalonia and the Joan Miró Foundation will host, on the other hand, several parallel activities, such as the presentation of the project "The cinema of the future", with a conference by Pere Sallent, "Locations with Pier Paolo Pasolini ", by Ila Beka and Fredy Massad, or the presentation of the "Architecture and cinema workshop: the best youth. Architecture and post-pandemic city", coordinated by Maria Mauti.

The BARQ Festival is an initiative of the Nihao Films production company that has the support of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, the Arquin-FAD association, the College of Architects of Catalonia, the ICO Foundation, the Arquia Foundation and the Design Museum.
