Storm: Hurricane "Orlene" hits Mexico's Pacific coast

Hurricane Orlene has hit the Pacific coast of Mexico. With wind speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour and heavy rain, the tropical cyclone made landfall near Isla del Bosque in the northwestern state of Sinaloa, as reported by the Mexican weather service.

After reaching the second-strongest Category 4 over the Pacific on Sunday, Orlene weakened before making landfall and made landfall as the lowest Category 1 hurricane.

The center of "Orlene" is now moving around 80 kilometers southwest of Mazatlán, weakened, inland, the US hurricane center reported. The storm will quickly lose strength and dissipate by Tuesday. However, strong winds and rain are still expected in the affected areas.

Tropical cyclones form over warm ocean water. The hurricane season in the Pacific runs from May 15th to November 30th and in the Atlantic from June 1st to November 30th.
