The German women's national table tennis team has won its first game at the World Team Championships in China.

In the 3-2 win against India, the European Championship runner-up Nina Mittelham (TTC Berlin Eastside) had to fend off a defeat at the start with a score of 1-2. The 25-year-old won 3-1 against Manika Batra after being 1-0 down. In the decisive fifth match, Han Ying, number eight in the world rankings, from the top Polish club KTS Enea Siarka Tarnobrzeg clearly won 3-0 sets against Sreeja Akula.

"To be honest, the game was even harder than I expected," said national coach Tamara Boros. "I'm glad that we have a very good teamwork." The next opponent in Chengdu is Egypt on Sunday morning.
