Referee boss: Happy about the video evidence: "There is a need for improvement"

Referee boss Lutz Michael Fröhlich has admitted too many mistakes by the referees and inconsistent interpretation of the rules by the video assistants.

"There is room for improvement," said the 64-year-old in an interview with "Sport Bild". "As far as working directly with the referees is concerned, we need to continue working on a unified line." It is also important to improve acceptance and communication on the subject of video assistants, which still have a bad image.

In the Bundesliga, however, 24 wrong decisions were corrected after seven matchdays through the use of video evidence, and 25 in the 2nd Bundesliga after nine matchdays, reports Fröhlich. "In the Bundesliga there are significantly more wrong decisions prevented up to this point than in previous years," he said. "On the other hand, that means that more wrong decisions were made on the pitch. You can't ignore that and the goal should be to improve it again."
