Surprise visit: Ulli Wickert returns to the "Daily Topics" - with a very personal message to Carmen Miosga

Years after the baton was handed over, Ulrich Wickert (79) is back at his old job in the "Daily Topics", but only for a one-off visit. And with a wink. Wickert left a single message, almost on his own: After years of holding the record as the longest-serving presenter of the show, he has now been overtaken - by the current presenter Caren Miosga.

"An important message is still missing in this show today," Wickert introduced the message. The "eternal record holder in moderating daily topics - i mean me" has now lost this title, the news veteran reported. He obviously didn't want to suffer from that. "I'll get over it, Caren Miosga is my favorite moderator," he said.

From June 1991, Wickert moderated the Hamburg-produced ARD flagship "Tagesthemen" for 15 years and two months. In the ear of many, he should certainly still be with his farewell greeting for each program - he always wished a "restful night". In 2006, Wickert gave up his post at the "Tagesthemen". His successor was Tom Buhrow, who had already left the show in 2013. A short time later, Caren Miosga succeeded Wickert's longtime colleague Anne Will, who also left the show in 2007.

ARD program director Christine Strobl and ARD editor-in-chief Oliver Köhr only had praise for Caren Miosga: "Her style is unmistakable: competent, understandable and clear, highly professional, but always with empathy and a special charm," they explained. "Caren Miosga has long since become "Mrs. "topics of the day." The moderator will probably be able to significantly expand Wickert's record: According to ARD, her current contract runs until 2025.
