Private accommodation: Green politicians: 500 euros for taking in refugees

The Green politician Erik Marquardt demands 500 euros per month for private individuals who take in refugees. "There are plenty of large houses with free rooms, people have space, they want to help, but they also have to pay additional costs and should therefore be supported," said the MEP in an interview with "Spiegel" on Friday.

The private accommodation relieves the taxpayer, the cities, municipalities and the state, Marquardt said on Friday of the "Bild". A place in public accommodation costs 1,000 euros a month and more. The state would even save money, says Marquardt. The mediation of the rooms should be taken over by the state. In this way, people with similar language skills could be brought together. In addition, a complaints office is needed to resolve problems promptly.

How the federal government wants to contribute financially to the costs for refugees is to be clarified in a federal-state meeting at the beginning of November. At the refugee summit in mid-October, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) did not make any predictions as to how many refugees will come to Germany this year.
