It was just a few dry sentences from the Minister of Defense - but they will have serious consequences: "In May 2024 this mission will be over," said Christine Lambrecht last night. The withdrawal from Mali should be "coordinated, with a very clear plan". Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who would have liked to extend the mission, had to back down in the power gamble against Defense Minister Lambrecht in Berlin. The real losers, however, are others - the people of West Africa.
