Donald Trump wants to go back to the White House: The 76-year-old has announced that he wants to be nominated again by the Republican Party for the US Presidential election. That in itself wasn't a surprise, many had been expecting Trump's statement for weeks - but hardly anyone had had this event on their screens for as long as the "Simpsons".
Because the Trump candidacy for the 2024 election appears in a seven-year-old YouTube clip of the series. In one scene, a campaign sign can be seen behind Homer Simpson that reads "Trump 2024." "Simpsons" showrunner Al Jean therefore insisted on posting this picture on Twitter. He wrote: "As predicted in 2015."
It's not the first time that the animated series has shown events that occur in (almost) exactly the same way years later. The makers had also foreseen Donald Trump’s first term in office – back in the year 2000.
In addition, topics such as the Greek financial crisis, the auto-correction function on smartphones and the Tiger attack on the magician Roy Horn appeared early on in various episodes - long before they became reality. There's even a Twitter account dedicated solely to the Simpsons predictions.
As far as Donald Trump's second candidacy is concerned, the prophecy of the "Simpsons" makers has only half come true so far. Trump has announced that he wants to run again, but he must first be nominated by the Republicans as a candidate and prevail against some competitors from his own party.
