"The Crown": The start date of the fifth season has been set

The eagerly awaited fifth season of the Netflix series "The Crown" starts on November 9, 2022. The streaming service announced this on Saturday during its Tudum event and on social media.

The fans could also look forward to a video message from Imelda Staunton (66). The actress takes on the role of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) in the fifth season of "The Crown". Staunton promises to "do her utmost to maintain the very high standard" set by her predecessors Olivia Colman, 48, and Claire Foy, 38. She hopes she looks "calm, composed and competent" while her "stomach is doing somersaults".

Also in the fifth season of "The Crown" there is a new cast that plays the royal family. In addition to Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Elizabeth Debicki (32, "Tenet") and Dominic West (52, "The Wire") are part of the cast. The new episodes are about the experiences of the British royal family between 1990 and 1997.

Filming for the sequel to The Crown is currently in full swing. They were briefly interrupted after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th. "As a mark of respect, filming for 'The Crown' was suspended today [September 9]," it said in an official statement the following day, which was available to the Hollywood Reporter, among others. Filming on the series was also paused on the day of the funeral on September 19.
