Murder charged after woman dies in Florida biker shootout

LAKELAND, Fla. - Authorities announced Saturday that a Florida man was facing murder charges following the death of a woman who was riding his motorcycle in a shootout with a rival biker group.

Polk County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying that the woman, 33 years old, died shortly after being shot in the head in the gun battle at Interstate 4 between Lakeland & Orlando.

Donovan is currently in jail without bond and was due to make his first court appearance on Saturday. According to court records, Donovan does not have an attorney.

Investigators believe the shooting started when the Thug Riders were passing the Sin City Deciples along the interstate. Donovan is accused of shooting and wounding a Thug Rider during a motorcycle race at more than 100 mph (161 kph). Bullet casings were scattered along the highway.

Even though Donovan has not been accused of shooting his female friend, Florida law allows for certain felonies to result in indirect death and can lead to a charge of murder.
