Hospitality: Two interested parties for Schuhbeck's "Südtiroler Stuben"

After the closing of the restaurant "Südtiroler Stuben" of the star chef Alfons Schuhbeck, who was convicted of tax evasion, there are two interested parties for the rooms. The Hofbräuhaus and the Bavarian State Opera had made corresponding inquiries, said the managing director of the state company Real Estate Free State of Bavaria, Gerhard Reichel, on Tuesday. According to a spokeswoman, the State Opera would like to use the rooms for another hall for the neighboring State Ballet, among other things. Several media had previously reported on the interest of the two institutions in the rooms.

Both applicants would now specify the options for use, after which the applications would be examined, said Reichel. "There are questions of content and construction to be clarified." Above all, the question of the extent to which the rooms at the Platzl in Munich have to be converted for subsequent use will play a role. "Of course, a prompt decision on further use is sought," emphasized Reichel.

Schuhbeck's "Südtiroler Stuben" closed at the end of the year. "We look back on a wonderful 20 years," the restaurant's website said. "Even if the restaurant no longer exists, this should not be goodbye forever."

At the end of October, the Munich I Regional Court sentenced Schuhbeck to three years and two months in prison for tax evasion. On the other hand, the star chef appealed. At the same time, he announced that he would withdraw the appeal "should the written reasons support the district court's decision." Even after the written justification, it was ultimately left open whether he would refrain from appealing the judgment.
