Abuse lawsuit against Nick Carter: US broadcaster draws first consequences

After the allegations of rape and abuse against Nick Carter (42) became known, there is now a first consequence: As the online edition of the industry journal "Variety" reports, the US broadcaster ABC is withdrawing the planned broadcast of "A Very Backstreet Holiday". The Christmas special by the legendary boy band Backstreet Boys, starring Nick Carter, has been filming in Los Angeles for the past few weeks, but according to the report it is now completely out of the program.

The documentary was scheduled to air on December 14th. In it, Carter, AJ McLean (44), Kevin Richardson (51), Brian Littrell (47) and Howie Dorough (49) should have presented hits from their tenth album "Very Backstreeet Christmas" in a Christmas setting. Celebrity appearances by comedian Seth Rogen (40), actor Rob Riggle (52) and pop singer Meghan Trainor (28) were also planned.

The cancellation appears to be a direct response to the lawsuit filed by a 39-year-old woman. She claims to have been drunk 22 years ago by Nick Carter when she was 17 on a Backstreet Boys tour bus. Sexual acts then took place in the on-board toilet. So she begged him to stop. After the rape, he threatened her and called her a "retarded little slut". The autistic woman, who suffers from cerebral palsy, contracted the HP virus through Carter and is now demanding compensation.

Carter's lawyer Michael Hotz has already responded to the massive allegations with a statement. The claim is not only legally unfounded, but also completely untrue. The plaintiff would have been manipulated for years into making false allegations against Carter. Nobody should be fooled by the fact that it is just a "staged press stunt": "There is absolutely nothing wrong with this statement, and we have no doubt that the courts will recognize that quickly."
