Traffic: Police caught thousands of speeders in Saxony-Anhalt

In Saxony-Anhalt, many people drive too fast. During a week of action, the state police caught a total of 4,800 drivers speeding, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on Saturday in Magdeburg. "The aim of our large-scale control week was to make all road users aware of the dangers of excessive speeds," explained Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU).

Around 1,100 officers were on duty in Saxony-Anhalt from April 17th to 23rd, checking a total of 170,000 vehicles at over 100 locations. In Möser (Jerichower Land), Coswig (Wittenberg district) and on the Autobahn 9 near Osterfeld (Burgenland district), speeds were measured that were well above the permitted level. For example, the highest value measured on the A9 was 199 kilometers per hour - the speed limit there was 100. In the Jeber-Bergfrieden district of Coswig, a vehicle was measured at a control point at 110 kilometers per hour - at a permitted 50 kilometers per hour.
