At first glance, Taipei's street crossings don't differ much from those in Berlin, Cologne or Hamburg. There are (too) many lanes for cars, a narrow lane for bicycles, pedestrian crossings with too short intervals and the occasional elevated track for the metro. The difference only becomes apparent when you look down at the asphalt. There, large white rectangles are drawn in behind the pedestrian crossings, so-called "turn boxes" (see above). These boxes are a manifestation of living Taiwanese mobility culture: scooter riding.
