The animals are said to be offered for sale at auction. Among them is the stallion "Just Fine", who has just won the first race in favor of the king. The horse "Love Affairs" is also to be put up for sale. It galloped to the Queen's last win of her lifetime in September - two days before her death. The sale of the dozen horses is only the beginning, more are to follow, writes the "Daily Mail".

A source close to the Royal Stud at Sandringham is quoted as saying that racing there could even come to a complete halt within the next few years: "The Royal Stud could be a museum in three years. That would be a shame." The king currently owns 60 racehorses and 38 broodmares, inherited from his mother.

In addition, 30 foals are expected next year, which could fetch particularly high sales prices - they will be the last horses bred in the possession of Queen Elizabeth II. But Charles apparently does not share the Queen's hobby.

The links between the royals and the horseracing industry will remain, a source close to the royals told the Daily Mail: "The desire is to continue the traditions and links with Royal Ascot, but not to the same extent like Her Majesty who had a passion for it."
